Karl Andersson interviewed in Bon
February 28th, 2011, 12:56 | 2 comments
In the spring/summer 2011 issue of Bon Magazine, Luis Venegas of EY! Magateen talks to Karl Andersson of Destroyer magazine about boys, beauty, ideals, and why the fashion world loved Destroyer while the LGBT establishment hated it.
The interview is a hint that the launch of Gay Man’s Worst Friend, the English translation of the Swedish book about Destroyer, is getting closer. Actually, it is being printed this very week!
Bon is a Swedish fashion magazine, but their international edition (in English) is for sale in magazine outlets worldwide. Grab it now!

Nike re-launches Destroyer Journal
January 29th, 2011, 12:56 | No comments

Nike, the shoe company, has published a magazine called Destroyer Journal. They write:
Introducing the first issue of the Destroyer Journal, a large format newsprint that features different looks at our holiday icon, the Nike Sportswear Destroyer Jacket with athlete interviews, an introduction to our local NSW crew shot by Tim Barber, and a feature on Stadium MFG, the latest bespoke installation at Bowery Stadium.
For those who didn’t know: Destroyer Journal was the original name of the gay magazine that became more known as Destroyer Magazine over its four years’ lifetime from 2006 to 2010. We’re still registered as Destroyer with the ISSN organisation and we’re obviously the owners of the domain Destroyerjournal.com.
The energy never dies, but who would have known it would be reborn this fast, and in this shape? We here at the old Destroyer Journal wish Nike good luck with their endeavour!

The book “Bögarnas värsta vän – historien om tidningen Destroyer” (Gay Men’s Worst Friend – the Story about Destroyer Magazine) by Karl Andersson (that’s me!) is now available at Ilovemags:
And if you want me to sign it for you, don’t forget to tell me so in the comment field when checking out.
The book ships worldwide, but please note that this book is in Swedish. The English translation is scheduled for early 2011.
The book contains no images, only text. It’s a description of the reactions that Destroyer caused during its four years (2006-2010), as well as a personal account of why I started the magazine, who the readers were (you lived in 37 countries!), and other stuff related to Destroyer.
The reception of the book in Sweden has been very positive. Two of Sweden’s four biggest newspapers (Aftonbladet and Svenska Dagbladet) have written long articles about it in their culture sections, illustrated with covers and spreads from the magazine. I will translate those articles for you in time.
I also had a reading at a gallery in Stockholm last Wednesday. It was so popular that everyone couldn’t get in – there was a long line on the street outside. The event was attended by some of Sweden’s most influential writers, including Unni Drougge, who blogged about it (in Swedish). Also read 之乎者也 and Johanna Sjödin (both in Swedish), not to mention Panchamkauns (yes, in Swedish too).
The book is printed in 500 copies.

The book about Destroyer (in Swedish!)
October 19th, 2010, 11:37 | No comments

This is just to inform you English speakers what all the fuss on my blog (here for example) is about:
Yes, the book about Destroyer is here. But it’s in Swedish – if you rather read in English you should wait for the English translation, scheduled for release early next year. The book is called “Bögarnas värsta vän – historien om tidningen Destroyer”, which translates as “Gay Men’s Worst Friend – the Story about Destroyer Magazine”.
The book covers all the reactions that Destroyer caused, mainly in Sweden and mainly in the LGBT community. It also contains a summary of Destroyer’s content from the first to the last issue, as well as reader base statistics (Destroyer was read in 37 countries across the globe!), essays on the boy and interviews with some of Destroyer’s columnists.
If you happen to be in Stockholm, join me for the release party on October 27, 2010, at gallery Pony Sugar, Gotlandsgatan 67 from 6 to 10 pm. There will be wine, music and a book reading by me.
Hopefully, we’ll set up a livestream as well, so check back here on October 27 if you want to join the party that way!
