Marlon Teixeira is one of the hottest young stars in modelling I’ve seen for a long time. He’s 16 and from Brazil.

I actually think the color photo of him is more compelling than the black and white Armani ad below. A natural beauty like Marlon Teixeira doesn’t need the grooming and styling of the fashion world. Because he IS fashion the minute he wakes up and gets out of bed. (Oh yes, I’m a romantic.) In the color photo, he has a boyish geist that isn’t as strong in the ad (but still stronger than in most models).

Edit: I can’t let go of the first of the black and white pictures. What a gaze! What a presence! What a total domination of the picture! I doubt I have seen anything like it before. Talk about knowing his powers. I almost feel sad for the other model in the picture. (Understatement.)

Gay pride attacks

In the latest issue of The Guide, I comment on the recent attacks on gay pride parades in Brno and Budapest:

In Brno on June 28, the Czech Republic’s first-ever pride march faced an assault by dozens of neo-Nazis that left 20 of the 500 gay demonstrators injured. Police and the extremists clashed for some 45 minutes at the end of the parade route, and some 15 were arrested.

Does the greater tolerance evident in this year’s somewhat more peaceful prides in Moscow, Warsaw, and Bucharest mean that the anti-gay sore spot is shifting Westward?

Not necessarily, says Karl Anderson, editor of the Prague-based gay magazine Destroyer, who contends this year’s violence in the Czech Republic and Hungary doesn’t have deep roots.

“Unlike what had happened in Poland and Russia, the parade wasn’t attacked by regular citizens, but by extremists,” Anderson says. “These countries have a tradition of being open-minded and secularized. The attacks don’t reflect attitudes at large.”

Easier credit card payments

Especially American customers have complained that Destroyer’s web shop I Love Mags doesn’t approve all credit cards.

One reason might be that the site uses Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode. These technologies make the credit card transaction safer, but the drawback is that they are more common in Europe than in the US.

Another reason had to do with our own system. This has now been fixed!

So if you have had problems ordering Destroyer with credit card, now is a good time to test a second time! I apologize for all the troubles.
